2020 has been a turbulent year and adapting to this new normal has been a massive challenge for most of us. We are stressed, we are anxious and we are spending countless hours in front of the screen, which invariably has lead to numerous mental and physical ailments like bad postures, backaches, and stress.
That¡¯s why I decided to take a break, sit back and just breathe in and out through a relaxing yoga session. I signed up for Pragati Tyagi¡¯s virtual yoga class on MensXP x iDiva Experiences (just for Rs 150) and enjoyed the most relaxing 60-minutes ever!??
After a quick round of introductions, Pragati helped me focus on my breathing by starting the session with chanting. As I inhaled and exhaled with every ¡°Om¡±, I embraced the peace and calm within me. Just 5 minutes into this session, I felt myself relax.
Pragati introduced us to simple yoga asanas like the ¡®Cat and Cow Posture¡¯ (a simple stretch with a world of benefits) to build a strong back and deal with poor postures. The ¡®Downward Facing Dog¡¯ asana gave a good stretch to my calf and hamstring muscles.
She also helped correct our postures and rightly pointed out that most people tend to ignore the thoracic spine in their routine workouts, leading to the early aging of the spine. We did a couple of counterposes to help relieve the stress in our muscles.
After a warm-up round of suryanamaskars, we went to the more challenging asanas that work on every muscle in our body. With each relaxing stretch, I felt my anxiety alleviate. While yoga is good for your body it is even better for your mind!
After practicing other stress-fighting asanas, we proceeded to exercises that benefit our reproductive system, boost menstrual health and help with PCOS too.??
While yoga might seem boring for some, a relaxing one-hour session is a calming reminder to just take a break from our fast-paced life ruled by stress, anxiety and content overload.
Pragati¡¯s virtual class proved to be just the kind of break we need to mentally and physically adjust to this ¡°new normal¡±. With over 5 years of experience in teaching yoga, and 200+ hours of training from AVM Yoga, Rishikesh, Pragati Tyagi was everything I could have asked for in a yoga instructor.
