The martyrdom of over 40 CRPF soldiers has shaken the nation to the core and amid the cries for revenge, the individual stories of the martyrs have left our eyes wet. But this is not the first time; India is mourning its martyrs as last three years have seen many young officers and soldiers of the armed forces martyred in the valley fighting the terrorists.

Majority of them were either the single child of their parents who didn¡¯t even think once before sending their child to the force or they were fathers to the children who were barely months old. The stories of these soldiers who laid their lives for the nation certainly evoke of a barrage of emotions and here are 10 such martyr stories which would leave us with teary eyes.
Captain Pawan Kumar was just 22 when he died fighting terrorists in Kashmir Valley¡¯s Pampore on February 21, 2016. Captain Pawan was an elite Para Commando of the Special Forces and was born on army day in? 1993. He was destined to be a martyr. He was? single child to his parents.
O his son¡¯s martyrdom, the proud father had said, ¡°I had one child, I gave him to the Army, to the nation. No father can be prouder.¡±
Captain Ayush Yadav was martyred during a terror attack on army camp in Kupwara in November 2017, was the only son to his parents. Ayush had joined the service three years before his martyrdom and his father who is an inspector in UP Police called for strong Kashmir policy.
¡°We have lost our son, and he died because the government doesn¡¯t have any strong Kashmir policy. Since I am a man of uniform, I can¡¯t say much to criticise the government, but unless it comes up with a strong Kashmir policy, soldiers will keep dying the unfortunate deaths,¡± told Arun Kant Yadav to NDTV. Lance Naik Sandeep Singh, the hero of the Surgical strike post the Uri episode in which 18 of our soldiers were killed by terrorist died fighting terrorists in the Valley in September 2018.? "Life Should Be Big Instead Of Being Long," reads the last Facebook description of Captain Kapil Kundu. And he lived true to the word.
Captain Kapil Kundu would have turned 23 six days after, but instead, he chose to lay down his life along with four his soldiers in Pakistani shelling in February 2018. Captain Kapil was the only son and his mother along with the?whole village in Pataudi, Haryana had drowned in tears.
"If I had another son, I would have sent him to the army too. Had my son lived for another 15-20 years, he would have done more for his nation," said Sunita Kundu, the mother of Captain Kundu. Amid the Pulwama attach furore, another soldier laid down his life while trying to defuse the bomb in Naushera sector on February 16. The 31-year-old Major was a part of the Army¡¯s Corps of Engineers and was a sanitation campaign of bomb disposal squad.
He had neutralised one mine and during an attempt to defuse another, the IED exploded and grievously injured the Major. He was rushed to hospital but couldn¡¯t be saved. He was to get married on March 7. Read More
