A court in Rajasthan has issued notices to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the Ministry of Minority Affairs, and the Ajmer Dargah Committee in a petition claiming there is a Shiva temple inside the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. The petition was filed by Vishnu Gupta, the President of the Hindu Sena.
The Ajmer Dargah should be declared as Sankat Mochan Mahadev Temple, and if the dargah has any kind of registration, it should be cancelled. Its survey should be done through ASI, and Hindus should be given the right to worship there, Gupta said in his plea.
The Ajmer Dargah, also known as Ajmer Sharif, is a Sufi shrine located in the city of Ajmer in Rajasthan. It is the tomb of Moinuddin Chishti, a 13th-century Iran-born Sufi saint who died in March 1236.
Following his death, a shrine was built by Mughal King Humayun in his honour. The dargah, made of marble and gold plating, soon became a highly popular place of pilgrimage and continues to attract visitors from across India and abroad even now.
This is not the first time the Hindu Sena has made such claims. In 2023, the Hindu Sena filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking changes in history books regarding the construction of the Taj Mahal.
According to the Hindu Sena, the Taj Mahal was originally the palace of Raja Man Singh and was subsequently refurbished by the Mughals.
Hindu Sena is also one of the petitioners in the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Eidgah dispute in Mathura.
According to the Hindu Sena, the Keshavdev temple in MathuraĄ¯s Krishna Janmabhoomi complex was demolished by Aurangzeb in 1670, after which the Eidgah was built there.
