Social media posts which are deemed "anti-national" or "anti-social" will create difficulties in obtaining a passport in the state of Uttarakhand.
The Uttarakhand administration has said that even people's social media posts can have an impact on police verification for passports.
Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar had said that the police will maintain a record of social media posts that they think are ¡°anti-national¡± or ¡°anti-social¡±.
¡°Until now, in cases of any person putting up any anti-national posts on social media, the police used to counsel them. A case was registered only if it was a very serious case,¡± Kumar was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
He added the police will scrutinise social media accounts to check if people are "habitual posters of anti-india and anti-social posts."
Those identified as habitual offenders will see police not signing off on their police verification -- mandatory for passports and arms license.
Earlier, the Bihar government had issued an order saying those participating in violent protests and demonstrations will face issues in securing a government job.
