Gynaecologist Dr Anahita Pandole, who was driving the Mercedes-Benz car that met with an accident in which industrialist Cyrus Mistry in September this year, has a history of overspeeding, the police have said.
According to the Palghar police investigating the Mistry car accident, Dr Anahita has been pulled up for multiple traffic violations.
At least seven of these were e-challans issued for overspeeding since 2020.
"There were at least seven instances in which Dr Anahita was found behind the wheel and over-speeding, captured on speed cameras. These instances were from 2020 till the day of the accident in September 2022," Palghar Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil said.
Police said that during the probe, it was found that the car involved in the accident was also fined for various traffic violations.
"Those challans were issued for over-speeding involving the same car that was involved in the Palghar accident," the SP said.
The e-challans against Dr Anahita will now be made part of the charge sheet.
Patil said the Palghar Police would submit the charge sheet in the case by the end of this week before the local court, he said.
"Police have not recorded Dr Anahita's statement in connection with the accident so far," he said.
On September 4 this year, Dr Anahita was driving from Udwada to Mumbai when the SUV crashed into a concrete barrier in Palghar on National Highway 4.
Mistry and his friend Jehangir Pandole were killed, while Dr Anahita, who was at the wheel, and her husband Darius Pandole suffered severe injuries in the accident.
According to the police, just before the fatal accident, Dr Anahita was driving the car at over 100 kmph, and she hit the brakes 3.5 seconds before the collision.?
Last month, Darius told the police that his wife, Dr Anahita, was driving the Mercedes-Benz car in the third lane and could not merge into the second lane that turned narrow near the Surya river bridge.
When she tried to take the car to the second lane from the third, she found that there was a truck on the right side (in the second lane), due to which she was not able to merge into that lane; he said, adding the lane turned narrow near Surya river bridge.
Following the accident, the Palghar Police registered a rash driving case against Dr Anahita in November.
