The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials were in for a surprise when they rescued an old woman from the cities street.
The woman, identified as Bijli Pentamma was rescued by the officials on Friday from Moosarambagh near Malakpet.
But when they examined her belongings before she was to be moved to the rehabilitation centre Anand Ashram they were in for some shock.
The woman who has been begging in the city since 2011 had Rs 2.34 lakhs in cash in her bag.
According to the authorities, Pentamma had sold her property at Amberpet for Rs 2 lakh in 2011. She gave Rs 1 lakh to her children and grandchildren and kept the rest for herself.?

Pentamma who was living with her family left home when her youngest son died and the family of the eldest son wasn't taking care of her.
Since then she had been living in the street, begging.
At the rehabilitation center, Pentamma reportedly told the staff that she could not sleep at night due to the fear of the money getting stolen.
Following this the authorities helped her to open a bank account where she has deposited her savings.?
