Police in Morbi, Gujarat, on Monday, arrested businesswoman Vibhuti Patel, aka Raniba Patel and two others, including her brother, in connection with the assault on a Dalit man?who was briefly employed in her company.
Vibhuti Patel (27), her brother Om Patel alias Om Sitapara (21), and her business partner Raj Padshala (23) had surrendered before the police on Monday.
Vibhuti Patel is the owner of Raniba Industries Pvt Ltd, which has an office in a commercial complex at Ravapar Crossroad.
According to the company's website, Raniba Industries is a leading tiles manufacturer.
The trio was arrested on the complaint of one Nilesh Dalsaniya, a Dalit man who had worked with Raniba Industries for little over two weeks.
At the beginning of October, Dalsaniya, who is into tiles marketing, was hired by Raniba Industries on a monthly salary of Rs 12,000. However, on October 18, he was sacked from his job.
Dalsaniya alleged that when he sought his salary for 16 days that he worked in the company, Vibhuti Patel did not give a clear answer and then stopped responding to his calls.?
On November 24, Dalsaniya, along with his elder brother Mehul and their neighbour Bhavesh Makwana, went to the office of Raniba Industries to demand his salary.
This did not go down well with Vibhuti Patel, who, along with her brother Om Patel and business partner Raj Padshala, assaulted them.
Vibhuti Patel then allegedly slapped and dragged Dalsaniya to the terrace of the commercial complex, where the trio and six to seven unidentified men beat him with belts and also kicked and punched him.?
The complainant alleged that Vibhuti Patel forced him to take her footwear in his mouth and made him apologise for demanding a salary. She also threatened to get him killed if he is seen in the Ravapar Crossroad area again.?
They also shot a video and forced him to say that he came to Vibhuti's office to extort money. In a video, the accused are seen forcing the victim to apologise for demanding the salary from the businesswoman.?
Based on Dalsaniya's complaint, the accused were booked on the charges of assault, criminal intimidation, rioting and under relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
