* Since being convicted in the second fodder scam case on December 23, Lalu has been lodged in Ranchi's Birsa Munda Central Jail. During sentencing hearings since then, Lalu complained to Judge Singh about jail conditions and this is how the exchange proceeded:

Lalu: "It is very cold in jail."
Judge Singh: "If you're cold, play the harmonium and tabla to stay warm."

* Since being in jail, the RJD chief learned about a transgender prisoner allegedly harassing some fellow inmates. Lalu decided to bring this to Judge Singh's attention, said local media reports.
Lalu: "Sir, there is a transgender in jail who asks inmates to get married."
Judge Singh, nonchalantly: "Now that you are there, everything will be sorted."
* Worried about how long he would be sentenced for, Lalu had some advice for Judge Singh. Here's how that conversation went:

Lalu: "Please deliver your sentencing with a cool mind."
Judge Singh: "Yes, I've got calls from your well-wishers too. But don't worry. I will follow only the law (when I sentence you)."
* Today, on the last day of hearing to do with Lalu's and 15 others' sentencing, Judge Singh delivered this insight about an hour before announcing the sentence. (Remember when reading it that Lalu has now been convicted in two fodder scam cases.)
Judge Singh: "An open jail is best for these convicts, because they have experience in cow farming."
