Former Indian cricket team member Yusuf Pathan made a successful debut on a different pitch on Tuesday. Pathan, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC) candidate from the Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal, emerged victorious in the highly contested election.
Congress leader and incumbent MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury finished second in the Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency in the results announced on Tuesday. Pathan, who was trailing in third place during the initial hours of counting, picked up his numbers as the day progressed and surged ahead of both Chowdhury and BJP's Nirmal Kumar Saha.

Yusuf Pathan, who made his Team India debut against Pakistan in 2007 in the inaugural ICC World Twenty20, has represented the country in 77 matches, including T20s and ODIs.

Pathan also had a very successful IPL career, starting with the Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural season in 2008. He switched to Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011 and was part of the outfit until 2017. In 2018, Yusuf Pathan was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad, and after a dip in form in the 2019 season, he was released by Hyderabad ahead of the 2020 season. He announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in February 2021.
