Pallavi Dempo, the BJP's candidate for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat filed her nomination papers on Wednesday. Pallavi was accompanied by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant when she filed the nominations for the elections, which will be held in the third phase on May 7.
The 49-year-old industrialist is among the richest candidates in the fray so far.
Pallavi is the wife of Shrinivas Dempo, the chairman of the Dempo group, whose business empire is spread across tourism, mining, shipbuilding, real estate, sports, and more. Pallavi is the executive director of Dempo Industries.
According to her election affidavit, Pallavi has assets worth more than 250 crore. This includes approximately Rs 217.11 crore in bonds, around Rs 12.92 crore in savings, about Rs 2.54 crore worth of vehicles, approximately Rs 5.69 crore in gold, and other items valued at around Rs 9.75 crore.
The affidavit also stated that the value of the assets owned by her husband Shrinivas is Rs 994.8 crore.
The couple also jointly owns an apartment in Savanna Dubai, which has an estimated market value of Rs 2.5 crore, and an apartment in London valued at Rs 10 crore.?This takes the couple's declared assets to over Rs 1,400 crore.
As per the affidavit, Pallavi filed income-tax returns amounting to Rs 10 crore for the financial year 2022-23 and Shrinivas filed returns of Rs 11 crore for the same year.
Pallavi who is also the first-ever woman candidate in the BJP¡¯s Goa poll history holds a graduate degree in chemistry and a postgraduate degree in business management (MBA) from MIT, Pune.?
Her main rival is Viriato Fernandes of the Congress. The South Goa parliamentary seat is currently held by Congress MP Francisco Sardinha.
