Amid her busy campaign schedule in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, a candidate from Andhra Pradesh took a break from giving political speeches and meeting voters to assist in a medical emergency.
Gottipati Lakshmi, the Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) candidate?for the Darsi assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district on Thursday, went back to being a doctor to perform a life-saving C-section.
Dr. Gottipati Lakshmi, a practicing gynaecologist and the owner of a hospital left her campaign mid-way on Thursday after she got a call about a medical emergency.
Dr. Lakshmi was campaigning in the Kurichedu village when she got a call from a local hospital informing about a pregnant woman admitted there who had developed some complications as she was about to go into?labour.
Without a second thought, the doctor rushed to the hospital and upon examination found that the woman, Venkata Ramana from Abbayipalem village had her amniotic fluid drained completely.
The only way to save the mother and child was a C-section, which she performed successfully with the help of the medical staff there.
The woman gave birth to a baby boy and both the mother and the newborn are said to be healthy.
According to Dr. Lakshmi, who attends around 100 childbirths every month, Thursday's case was one of the most complicated she had come across in her career.
As a doctor, she said that it was her duty to save lives.
"Nothing in this world brings me more joy than welcoming a life onto this Earth Babies and smiles motivate me to keep going. It was a good day," she wrote on social media.?
