Under heavy criticism for not acting against illegal constructions, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started a drive to demolish encroachments in several areas of the city.
The move comes a day after 14 people were killed in a fire in Mumbai's Kamala Mills area in a pub which was operating illegally flouting rule and fire safety norms.?

The BMC on Saturday targeted encroached structures built by restaurants and pubs at Kamla Mills compound, Raghuvanshi Mills compound and Phoenix mall premises.
Demolition drives were also carried out at Heera Panna Mall, China Garden, Revival restaurant, Krishna Palace, Rosewood Hotel, Anjali building, Jain Tower, JSS Road and several other hotels in the region.

The demolition drive was initiated even as Mumbai Police issued look out notice against all the accused in the Kamala Mills fire case.
Airports across the country have been put on high-alert and five teams of the Mumbai Police have been formed to search for the accused.

The fire, that claimed at least 14 lives, reportedly had broken out from the '1 Above' rooftop restaurant and later spread to the entire area, on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

According to initial probe has said that the fire might have caused due to a short circuit in 1 Above and the inflammable tarpaulin sheets used as sheds was responsible for spreading the blaze.
