Telangana Man Who Took Flights To Commit Robbery, Wanted To Scale Mount Everest, Arrested In Kerala
The Kerala Police on Wednesday arrested an interstate robber who flew from one city to another to commit crimes.
The accused, identified as Sampathi Uma Prasad, a native of Ballepalli, Khammam District of Telangana, was arrested from the Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram, where he has committed at least three burglaries since arriving in the city in May.
Arrested in airport
He was arrested on Wednesday at the Thiruvananthapuram on his return to the city to commit more crimes.
"Sampathi uma Prasad came by flight to Trivandrum on May 28 from Hyderabad. He visited tourist places and left on June 2. He then came back on June 6 and committed three burglaries under Fort and Petta police station limit and left on July 1 by flight," Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner CH Nagaraju said.
"Uma Prasad stole gold worth Rs 5 lakh and a diamond from a residence based in Moolavilakam. Also, a diamond worth Rs 50,000 from Manacadu and gold worth Rs 27,000 from Vazhapally," the police said.
How he was identified
The police managed to Uma Prasad based on the information provided by the driver of an auto that he used for travelling in the city.?
Later the police also obtained CCTV visuals from the crime scenes, in which Uma Prasad was seen, though he had managed to cover his face.
After unmaking his identity from the hotel records where he had stayed, the police learned that he had booked a flight ticket from Hyderabad to Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday and nabbed him on arrival.
Following his arrest, the police also recovered the stolen goods that Uma Prasad had hidden near the Chakka railway bridge located in Thiruvananthapuram.
Wanted to scale Mount Everest
According to police, 23-year-old Uma Prasad is a history-sheeter with numerous cases against him in his hometown.
Police also revealed that Uma Prasad once dreamed of scaling Mount Everest before beginning his journey into the world of crime.
Knew how police worked
During the course of the investigation, the cops also learned that Uma Prasad had briefly worked with the Khammam on a contract job and was familiar with how criminal investigations are carried out.
This, the Kerala Police believe, may have helped Uma Prasad get away with his crimes so far.
