After a video of two women brutally killing 16 puppies went viral on social media, the accused have been arrested. PTI reported that two nursing students were arrested in relation to the incident on Tuesday.
The killing of puppies took place on Sunday. Reportedly, the investigators concluded that the murder of the animals was planned in advance and it wasn¡¯t something that was initiated as a result of reflex action.
The police was also questioning at least three others who were directly involved in the crime. As per information from TOI, the two accused have been identified as 21-year-olds Moutusi Mondal and Soma Burman. While Mondal is a first-year student at NRS school of nursing Burman is a second-year student.

The interrogation continued for about six hours and the two women have been charged under IPC section 429 and 201, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. If convicted the students can face a jail term of around five to seven years.
Talking to the publication, a senior hospital official said that the puppies were lured from different corners of the hostel premises using biscuits. Once all the puppies were brought inside the room, all exit gates were locked and the women carried out the heinous crime. ¡°It was cold-blooded murder¡± the official had added.
A three-member hospital probe committee interrogated around 55 nursing students as well as staff members. The officials were shocked to hear the reasons behind the brutal murder.

¡°The pups would cling to our feet as we walked,¡± was one answer. Another ¡°crime¡± was the pups filching some pieces of clothing, left out to dry and ¡°using them as bedding in winter¡±. ¡°One nurse said there were cases of strays biting humans but no one could identify a victim,¡± the official added.
Hospital Deputy Superintendent Dwaipayan Biswas told TOI that very strict action will be taken against the guilty.
Seventeen pups were found stuffed in a plastic bag along with an adult dog-probably the mother on Monday. They were found in this terrible condition from the parking lot of NRS Medical college in Kolkata. The incident came to light when a video went viral on social media. Two women could be seen thrashing the puppies.
The puppies could be seen quivering and moaning with pain. The video was recorded from the second/third floor of a hostel building of a state-run dental college. The dog was also found in a brutal condition with its one eye gouged out. It was bleeding profusely and tore open the plastic bag which was meant for plastic waste.
15 of the 17 puppies had died while the dog was found in a critical condition.
