Bharatiya Janata Party MLA, Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who has been accused of raping a woman from Unnao and later attempting to murder her, has been suspended from the party since last year, claims the BJP.
After Opposition came down heavily on the Yogi Aditynath government in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP came out with a statement.
¡°Opposition parties are not aware of the fact that a disciplinary action was taken against Kuldeep Singh Sengar last year itself. He was issued a notice by the disciplinary committee and was later suspended from the party,¡± BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi? told News 18.
Reports suggest that the MLA has been suspended till CBI inquiry is complete.
A murder case was filed against Sengar and nine others after the survivor¡¯s car on way to a relative¡¯s house was hit by a speeding truck in Rae Bareilly on Sunday. Two of her aunts and her lawyer died in the accident.?
"FIR has been registered under the Indian Penal Code's sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (criminal intimidation), 120b (criminal conspiracy) against 10 named persons, including the BJP MLA, and 15-20 others," a police officer said.
Sengar is a four-time MLA from Bangarmau, Uttar Pradesh and was arrested in 2018 in connection with the case that took place in 2017.
On Monday, AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi had posted a picture of Unnao rape accused Kuldeep Sengar with chief minister Yogi Adityanath, and asked BJP why it didn't expel the MLA despite him being booked in sexual assault case. ¡°What is the BJP waiting for? Why has this man not been expelled from their party even when his name is in the latest FIR in the Unnao Rape Case?¡± she had tweeted.
She also tweeted, ¡°The road accident involving the Unnao rape victim is shocking. Where has the CBI probe in this case reached? Why is the accused MLA still in the BJP? Why is there laxity in the security of the victim and the witnesses? Can you hope for any justice from the BJP government without an answer to these questions?¡±
