In a bizarre turn of events, a woman from Madhya Pradesh has reportedly filed for divorce after her honeymoon turned out to be a pilgrimage to Ayodhya and Varanasi.
The woman, a resident of Bhopal filed for divorce last week, some ten days after the couple and her in-laws returned from Ayodhya and Varanasi.
According to Free Press Journal, the woman and her husband, both working in the IT sector had tied the knot in August 2023.
The woman had hoped for an overseas for honeymoon, but her husband turned it down saying that he had to look after his parents.
He then convinced her to honeymoon in India itself, which the woman agreed for Goa and South India.
But when it was time for the couple to leave for their honeymoon, the husband changed the locations to Ayodhya and Varanasi claiming that his mother wanted to visit the places before the Pran Pratishtha at the Ram Temple.
According to the woman she was only informed about the change in location a day before they left. The woman claimed that she did not create any issues and went on the trip. In her plea, the woman further alleged that her husband took more care of his family members than her during the trip.
The Family Court which accepted the woman's divorce plea has asked the coupe to undergo counseling.
While the woman may not have been impressed by a family trip to Ayodhya for honeymoon, the city is witnessing a massive tourist boom.
Uttar Pradesh Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh said that an estimated 1 lakh devotees expected to visit Ayodhya daily following the inauguration of the Ram temple. This, according to him will make Ayodhya the "world's most sought-after" tourist destination.
The Golden Temple in Amritsar gets an estimated 30-35 million visitors a year while the annual footfall at the Tirupati Temple is 25-30 million. Globally, Vatican City gets around 9 million tourists every year and Mecca in Saudi Arabia around 20 million.
