Ever pondered the existence of compassion in the realm of burglary? Seems like an oxymoron, right??
But this strange tale of a burglary from a film director's house challenges the conventional narrative as burglars were seen returning stolen items defying the stereotype of heartless criminals - albeit with a unique twist, as they selectively choose which items to restore.?
This is the story of Tamil film director M Manikandan.?
On February 8, burglars broke into his house and stole Rs 1 lakh cash, five sovereigns of gold ornaments and two national awards.?
A case was registered at the Usilampatti Town police and investigations began.?
But, to everyone's surprise, the burglars returned to Manikandan's house in Usilampatti on the night of February 12 and dropped off a plastic bag.?
Inside the bag were two National Award medals, along with a note saying, "Sir, forgive (us), your hard work is yours."?
Heart of gold, some might say. But still not enough heart to return the cash and jewellery!?
Due to the secluded location of the house, law enforcement has encountered difficulty obtaining CCTV camera footage to identify the burglars.?
A senior police officer informed TOI, "Going by the modus operandi, we suspect the burglar to be a local person and a repeat offender."?
M. Manikandan, an accomplished Indian director, writer, producer, and cinematographer, was born into a family of police officers in Usilampatti, Madurai district, Tamil Nadu.?
He marked his directorial debut with the short film "Wind" in 2010.?
His breakthrough in feature films came with "Kaaka Muttai," which secured the National Film Award for Best Children's Film in 2015.?
In 2022, he produced the film "Kadaisi Vivasaayi," earning him the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil.?
