Kabosu, The Shiba Inu Dog Who Inspired Cryptocurrency Dogecoin, Dies
Crypto enthusiasts and animal lovers?around the world?are mourning the death of Kabosu, arguably one of the most famous dogs on the internet, who passed away at?the age of?18.?The Japanese Shiba Inu which became an internet sensation nearly a decade ago had been suffering from?leukaemia?and liver disease and died on Friday.
Passed away peacefully
"Today?Kabosu, our?community's?shared friend and inspiration, peacefully passed in the arms of her person. The impact this one dog has made across the world is immeasurable. She was a being who knew only happiness and limitless love. Please keep her spirit and her family in your heart, and most importantly, carry her with you as your story continues - we are all fortunate for hers to have touched and shaped ours,"?Dogecoin said in a social media post.

¡°We will?be holding?a farewell party for Kabo-chan on Sunday, May 26th.?It will be held?at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City, from 1 pm to 4 pm,¡±?a blog post by her owner, Atsuko Sato, said.
How Kabosu became a meme
Sato, a teacher in Japan, adopted Kabosu in 2008 when she was sent to an animal shelter after her puppy mill shut down. Kabosu became an internet sensation when a 2010 photo of her with crossed paws and a slight smirk spread on Reddit and Tumblr.?A Reddit user referred to the image as?"Doge,"?and?that name just stuck with the meme community.

Though his relationship with the developers of Dogecoin is unclear, Musk has?in the past?referred to himself as the?"Dogefather"?and?"Dogecoin CEO."?In April 2023, Musk?had?even changed?the?iconic blue bird logo?of Twitter?and replaced it with the Shiba Inu dog emblem of Dogecoin.
