The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has confirmed that one of its wrestlers, Windham Rotunda, known to wrestling fans around the world by his ring names Bray Wyatt and The Fiend, has passed away at the age of 36.

"Just received a call from WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda who informed us of the tragic news that our WWE family member for life Windham Rotunda - also known as Bray Wyatt - unexpectedly passed earlier today. Our thoughts are with his family and we ask that everyone respect their privacy at this time," he wrote on X.
"WWE is saddened to learn that Windham Rotunda, also known as Bray Wyatt, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, at age 36. WWE extends its condolences to Rotunda's family, friends, and fans," WWE said in a statement.
Many fellow WWE wrestlers and friends expressed shock and condolences.
While the cause of Wyatt's death has not been officially confirmed yet, he has been missing in action for nearly six months due to an undisclosed health condition.
His last WWE appearance was against LA Knight at the Royal Rumble in January in what was described as a first-ever "Mountain Dew Pitch Black Match."
According to Sean Ross Sapp, a wrestling reporter for Fightful, the cause of Wyatt's death was heart-related, complicated by a COVID-19 infection.?
"I was given permission to reveal that earlier this year Windham Rotunda (Bray Wyatt) got COVID that exacerbated a heart issues. There was a lot of positive progress towards a return and his recovery. Unfortunately today he suffered a heart attack and passed away," he wrote on X.
Son of WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda, better known by his ring name IRS, Wyatt was a third-generation wrestler. His grandfather, Blackjack Mulligan, and uncles Barry Windham and Kendall Windham were also former wrestlers.
Wyatt's younger brother, Taylor Rotunda, is also a professional wrestler, who goes by the name Bo Dallas in WWE.
Wyatt made his WWE debut with NXT under the name Husky Harris in 2010.
His first WWE main roaster appearance was in July 2012 as part of the Wyatt Family, along with Luke Harper and Erick Rowan.
Soon, the trio made a name for themselves with their spooky appearances and matches.
Wyatt is also a former WWE champion and two-term WWE Universal Champion. He has also held the WWE Raw and Smackdown tag team championships.
Once seen as a possible successor to The Undertaker, Wyatt had faced The Deadman in a losing effort at WrestleMania 31 in 2015.
Wyatt is the second member of WWE's Wyatt Family stable to meet an untimely death.
Another Wyatt Family member, Brodie Lee, known by his ring name Luke Harper, died in December 2020 at the age of 41 due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
