Karun Nair has made this opportunity to bat in the Indian middle order count and how! The right-hander has shown a heavy appetitie for big runs and big runs is what he's getting. The 25-year-old has converted his maiden Test hundred into a double century becoming only the third Indian to do so.

The first Keralite to score a century in Tests, Karun broke Vinod Kambli's record of highest maiden Test ton for India. Kambli had scored 224 against the same opponents at Wankhede Stadium in February 1993. Before Kambli, it was Dilip Sardesai's unbeaten 200 against New Zealand at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium in 1965 which was the first instance of an Indian converting a maiden Test hundred into a double century.
Karun, who recorded the hundred-run mark for the first time in Tests in the first session of fourth day's play against England at Chepauk, Chennai, reached his 200 with a drive through the covers off part-time medium pacer Keaton Jennings.

It was earlier yesterday that Karun's Karnataka teammate KL Rahul failed to reach his maiden double after getting out for 199 but Karun didn't face the gitters after going into the tea break today unbeaten on 195. Karun shared a resounding 181-run stand with Ravichandran Ashwin, who hit 67.
At the end of 185 overs, India were 717/6 with Karun batting on 276 not out and Ravindra Jadeja unbeaten at 37.?
