Deepa Malik has made India proud at the Rio 2016 Paralympics as she won the country's third medal at the sporting extravaganza - a silver medal in shot put. With this feat, she has now become the first Indian woman Paralympian to win a medal.?

Deepa, an Arjuna awardee, is a celebrated Para athlete and has been promoting sports for the marginalised in India. Participating in the F53 event, Deepa threw her personal best 4.61m in her sixth and final attempt to finish second behind Bahrain's Fatema Nedham, who registered 4.76m mark to win gold. Dimitra Korokida of Greece took bronze with a throw of 4.28m.
