WhatsApp is currently rolling out a new voice chat feature that allows users to connect with a large group on the platform without a lot of constant disruption. The Discord-like voice chat feature is designed to let users talk with members of a group in real-time while still being able to message in the group.
Once a member initiates a voice chat, group members will receive a push notification join the chat instead of a call. An in-chat bubble will also appear to let users in to the chat. In a banner at the bottom of the screen, users may see who has joined the voice chat.
"Voice chats will end automatically once everyone has left the chat. They'll also end if no one joins the first or last person in the chat for 60 minutes," the company wrote.

Voice chats are available to groups with members between 33-128 people. The feature will only work on a user's primary device, i.e., their phone. "Group members not in the voice chat can see the profiles of those in the voice chat from the chat header and the Calls tab," said WhatsApp.
Up to 32 users can join a new voice chat in one go and is different from the voice call feature that allows 32 participants. WhatsApp claims voice chats are end-to-end encrypted as well.
