Coronavirus fear has gripped the biggest annual gaming event ¡®E3¡¯ in its grip and as per recent reports online, the event is on the verge of being cancelled. The confirmation for the same is expected to come by as soon as Wednesday, March 11.
For those unaware, E3 is the video game industry¡¯s biggest annual gathering that sees all the majors in the industry showcasing their upcoming products. These include new gaming consoles as well as video games. Typically, names like Microsoft, Nintendo and 2K are the ones gaining eyeballs during the event.
Even Sony used to be a big part of the E3 with its Playstation series as well as associated games. This time around though, the company had announced back in January that it will be skipping the gathering altogether, marking it the second year in a row for the tech firm to do so.
E3 was originally scheduled for June but reports to date have even mentioned the organizer - Entertainment Software Association, to be "exploring options for an online E3 event this summer." So as and when the confirmation for the event¡¯s cancellation comes, it will surely not be a surprise for those following its updates.
E3 is just one of the many main scale events to be cancelled this year due to the Coronavirus fear. To control the spread of COVID-19, events like the Mobile World Congress, SXSW, Google's I/O developer conference as well as Facebook's F8 conference have been cancelled to date.
Tech majors have also cancelled the launches of several of their consumer-tech products, or rather, have streamed them online instead of having holding a gathering. So as the E3 organisers announced the cancellation of the event at 9:30 am Los Angeles time (reportedly), the gaming event will only mark another in a growing list of annual gatherings to have been affected by the Coronavirus.
