Twitter will begin charging businesses $1,000 (Rs. 82,393) for brand verification. The pricey plan will give brands a gold verification badge.?
Last year, Elon Musk had introduced a colour-coded verification mechanism wherein gold check is for companies, grey check for government, and blue for individuals (including celebrities).
Currently, under the leadership of Elon Musk, Twitter is attempting to diversify how it makes money. Recently, Twitter announced that it would stop providing free API access, effectively ending the reign of automated bot accounts (even the fun ones).?
The steep pricing was first reported by social media consultant Matt Navarra, who got access to internal Twitter documents, The Information reported.?For affiliate business accounts, Twitter would charge $50 (Rs. 4,861) a month. Even then, this pricing structure hasn't been finalised yet.
Companies that do not shell out money will end up losing their verification badges. Twitter currently runs $8 (Rs. 659) a month verification programme for everyone, essentially letting anyone get verified on the platform. Earlier, Twitter verification was only available to celebrities, politicians, and journalists.

Twitter's attempt at making money comes in as the company current suffers a trust deficit by advertisers. In the fourth quarter of 2022, advertising revenue fell by 35% following Elon Musk's hefty $44 billion purchase of Twitter.
For bots, Elon Musk said that he would allow those with "good content" to access the Twitter API for free. According to Musk's tweet, a "light, write-only" version of Twitter API will be available to some bots, while most of the company's API would be behind a paywall.
