Twitter could lose up to 30 million users in the next two years according to a forecast that pins the exodus on its new owner, Elon Musk, amid concerns of offensive content on the platform.
Next year, the number of global monthly users could fall by 4% and 5% in 2025 - representing 32 million users in total, according to a forecast done by the research agency Insider Intelligence - based on its continuing analysis of the social media platform since 2008.
"There won¡¯t be one catastrophic event that ends Twitter," a principal analyst at Insider Intelligence, Jasmine Enberg, told The Guardian. "Instead, users will start to leave the platform next year as they grow frustrated with technical issues and the proliferation of hateful or other unsavoury content," Enberg added.
In addition, Twitter's slim staff would not be able to ease the platform's content moderation problems.
Twitter's biggest loss will come from within the US, its biggest market - with 8.2 million users projected to leave over the next two years. By 2024, the numbers are expected to fall to 50.5 million - the lowest since 2014, as the report adds, "Twitter becomes more unstable and less pleasant."
In the UK, Twitter is set to lose 1.6 million users over the next two years to a base of 12.6 million, the firm said.?
The biggest demographic that will leave Twitter will come from the under-25 and over-45 age groups, which "aren¡¯t as loyal and are less willing to tolerate a degrading experience."

In addition, Insider Intelligence claims that ad revenue growth for Twitter will fall from 22% in 2023 to 16% in 2024 to "essentially flat" as advertisers continue to pull out over safety concerns on the platform.
"Musk¡¯s primary focus in 2023 will be kickstarting Twitter¡¯s revenue engine, after losing many of its biggest advertisers and a long tail of other advertisers who have been quietly quitting the platform," the report said.
