The state of Maharashtra is now gearing up to fight another battle in the form of cyclone Nisarga?that has already reached the coast. Landfall near Alibaug has begun and the winds are reportedly flowing at 120-140 km/h.
The Met department has predicted it'll last for about three hours between 1pm and? 4pm.?
The effects of the approaching cyclone can already be witnessed in Maharashtra's Raigad district where trees have been uprooted owing to the fast winds.
?People have already taken to the Internet to show the havoc the cyclone is causing.?
Mumbai and all the neighbouring districts have reportedly been put on high alert, and vehicles are not allowed outside at this time.?
All emergency services, the police, fire brigade, NDRF and SDRF, army, navy, airforce, coast-guard, home-guards and others, are fully geared for the anticipated landfall with domestic flight operations curtailed.
As a precautionary measure, those living in non-pucca houses have been shifted to safer locations?while slum-dwellers in low-lying areas have been asked to evacuate.?
