Typewriters are charming tokens of a previous era and some people want to keep the magic alive by not just using them to type, but also create unique and impeccable art - like this?Bengaluru artist who has been etching portraits using just a typewriter.
In March last year, A C Gurumurthy made headlines when he made a portrait of Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.
He typed out letters, symbols, numbers and specialcharacters on the keyboard to flesh out a black and white portrait that closelyresembled Wing Commander Varthaman, his swashbuckling moustache intact.

During this year's Independence day, Gurumurthy?fleshed out an image of Bharat Mata by typing symbols, and special characters on a typewriter.?
The drawing by Gurumurthy depicted mother goddess killing coronavirus with her trishul.?

According to reports, AC Gurumurthy has been using the typewriter as a tool to create art, for over 50 years.
He has drown portraits of prominent figures,animals, and even pictures of historical monuments, all of which look as good as a pencil sketch or even better.
It is fairly challenging and technical, because while typing is relatively straightforward, creating a picture entails creating patterns, outlines, figures and various shades. Light and dark shades are obtained by applying varyingpressures onto the keys.?
He hopes that his work enters the Guinness Book Of WorldRecords one day.?
