Super 30 is making headlines once again! This time, not for the movie, but because 18 out of 30 students of Anand Kumar have cracked the JEE Advanced for admission into Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
In the years 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2017, all 30 students of Super 30 cracked JEE Advanced, bringing the institute into global focus. Though, this year the number of students to crack the exam are less still, almost everyone has at least a good enough score to make it to the NITs, which is a big deal.
Anand Kumar, is a mathematician best known for the ¡®Super 30¡¯ programme he started in Patna, Bihar in 2002. He guides and teaches children from underprivileged families and dream to crack IIT. By 2018, 422 out of the 480 had made it to the IITs and there's even a documentary on the same.
The result came days before?Super 30?starring?Hrithik Roshan?is set to hit the theatres, on July 2. The film revolves around the story of some underprivileged students chasing their dreams of entering into IITs under the guidance of their hero Anand.
After 18 of his students got selected, he said in a statement, ¡°Numbers do not matter to me. All of them have cleared JEE-Mains. If some missed out IIT, they will certainly get into NITs."
Super 30 is a highly motivational educational programme running under the banner of ¡®Ramanujan School of Mathematics¡¯. It searches for 30 meritorious students from among the economically weaker sections of the society and prepares them for IIT.
In the last several years, it has produced hundreds of IITians and during the programme, students are given absolutely free coaching, stay and food.
"In its 18-year journey starting 2002, Super 30 has so far sent over 450 students to IITs. Many of them passed out to hold important positions in India and abroad. We don't take any fee, fund or donation for it from any individual, government or private organisation. My entire family and team of teachers is involved with it," Anand told IANS after the results.
He took to Facebook to express his happiness and posted pictures of the students with the caption ¡®Passion and grit again scored over poverty. There is an atmosphere of joy. All are happy. Despite stiff odds, 18 students made it to IIT, while the rest are sure to get into NITs due to their good JEE-Mains score. Thanks to all of you.¡¯
