Being a cab driver is no easy thing. From odd hours to long journeys and having to deal with all kinds of passengers day in and day out, it is a tough job for anyone to do. To top it off, the pay is also not much and any break taken between rides means no money for that period of time.?
However, for an Uber driver in USA's Maryland state, his income-less break turned out to be extremely beneficial. The 69-year-old driver stopped at a store in Joppa to buy a scratch-off ticket that earned him $10.?
So, the elderly man used that money to buy a bigger lottery - a $1,000 loaded scratch-off ticket. What happened next changed his life. The driver scratched off the ticket inside the store and found out that he had won a $1,00,000 (Rs 74 lakhs) lottery, said a report by UPI.
The Man from Middle River told Maryland Lottery that he has been working as an Uber driver for five years and has completed more than 24,000 rides on his record.?
"I was saying 'Holy, holy, holy,' and a law enforcement officer who was standing next to me began to ask if I was OK," he said.
"That's when I asked him if he was seeing what I was seeing and showed him the ticket," he added.?
Now, the man plans to use his money to make changes and improvements to his car.?
Last year, a man won almost $1 million (Rs 7.36 crore) in a lottery and decided to give away all of his winning money to family, friends, and struggling strangers.?
Another example of winning the lottery is Peter Charleton who took home $896,511 (Rs 6.6 crore) after winning the TattsLotto in 2020. The 47-year-old had purchased the winning ticket from a store in Victoria, Australia. But unlike others who buy the ticket for their own benefit, Charleston had other reasons.
Peter said he decided not to keep all the money for himself and wanted to give it away to friends and family.
