Being a woman is hard. Not only does she have to try twice as hard to make a name for herself, but she also has to watch her back while doing so.?Despite every precaution, a woman is susceptible to harassment and molestation almost daily basis, around the world.
But chasing her dreams, nonetheless, is a young girl from Pakistanwho studies during the day and works as a food delivery agent at night.?Meerab signed up for the unconventional job, for a woman at least, of a?food delivery?executive, all in a bid to earn an honest day's living and support her family.?Not just that, she also studies and takes care of other expenses with the money she earns.?
She plans to one day start her own fashion brand after completing a course in fashion design.
Last week, Fizza Ijaz shared the story of Meerab on her Linkedin account after which it went viral with more than 53,000 likes and over 640 shares. Fizza, who works as a marketing manager at Unilever wrote in her post that she ordered food from KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken). Fizza was surprised when she got the call and the voice on the other side was that of a woman.
Meerab is a resident of Youhanabad in Lahore and she's pursuing a course in fashion design. She works as a food delivery girl at night and intends to remain in the job until she completes her graduation, and eventually launches her own fashion brand.
Ijaz wrote, ¡°Meet Meerab from Yohanabad, Lahore. She is pursuing a Bachelor¡¯s degree in Fashion Design and doing her night duty as a contestant at Kentucky Fried Chicken to cover her fees. She intends to remain a contestant for another 3 years until she graduates. Planning to launch her own fashion brand! More power to her! We hope to see more Pakistani girls take off for the adventures their heart desires!¡±
According to Fizza's post, Meerab's education is funded by the KFC Education foundation, but she works as a food delivery agent to support her family.?
"Her fee is taken care of by the KFC Education foundation (Kudos to KFC!) but she can still use support for expenses of college assignments/ supplies and she also supports her family / her mother¡¯s medical expenses," Fizza added.
Soon the post started receiving likes and was shared by many Linkedin users. Meerab was lauded by netizens who called her an 'inspiration.' Here are some reactions:
¡°Thank you so much Fiza Ejaz Meerab for making us so proud! She is not only a KFC Pakistan Dame Rider, but is also continuing her education journey with the KFC Women¡¯s Higher Education Scholarship Program. In fact, from a woman There is no force stronger than that which has decided to rise up,¡± remarked Asma Yusuf, Chief People Officer, KFC Pakistan.
"Wow! And how do we live with our prejudices. It is heard there are no opportunities for girls in India and Pakistan: that girls are not supposed to step out of the house: that these cultures think girls are meant for cooking and serving inside the 4 walls of the house. Way to go Meerab! Break all shackles and create your own world. Maybe one day we would be buying clothes from exquisite Meerab Fashions. Fizza, thank you for bringing such positive stories to us."
"Inspiring....Lot to learn from this story, working and studying to pay her school/college bills, not depending on their parents or friends or relatives/family, wants to be independent, as a Muslim girl(I meant here is conservative), she and her parents would have faced so many criticisms from friends and relatives/family for sending her to do the job that too late evening shifts, they beat all the odds of overcoming the society....", Gopi Srini commented on the post.
Meerab's story is a shining example of sheer determination and we wish her all the best for the future.
