Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, published a video on X showing the company's Optimus robot folding a shirt, leaving viewers online wondering how it accomplished the task.?
In a short video shared on Monday on X (previously Twitter), the Tesla Optimus robot can be seen standing beside a table and folding a black shirt on its own without assistance.?
The Tesla CEO captioned the video, "Optimus folds a shirt."
Tesla first revealed?the humanoid robot in 2022, as part of CEO Elon Musk's larger ambition of automating all physical human labour and accelerating the company's production operations.
According to the business,?the robot's goal is to be a "general-purpose, bi-pedal, autonomous humanoid robot capable of performing unsafe, repetitive, or boring tasks."
According to a biography of the multi-billionaire released last year, Musk told his colleagues that the Optimus robot was critical to developing the electric vehicle company into a $10 trillion enterprise.?
The Tesla CEO earlier stated that?the robot was being designed to replace human labour in "repetitive, boring, and dangerous tasks." "The vision is for them to serve millions of households, such as by cooking, mowing lawns, and caring for the elderly," he went on to say.
However, roughly 30 minutes after uploading the latest video, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO included an "important note" under the tweet, stating that the film was not entirely as it appeared.
"Optimus cannot yet do this autonomously, but certainly will be able to do this fully autonomously and in an arbitrary environment (which won't require a fixed table with a box that has only one shirt)," Musk added.
Users on X and the competing platform Threads questioned how the video was created if the robot's feat was not "fully autonomous."
The EV company has yet to offer information on the price or delivery date of Optimus, but Musk has previously hinted that the robot could cost less than $20,000.
At the 2022 Tesla AI Day, Elon Musk stated that the robot might be delivered within three to five years.?
