Here's something for your brain to munch on: some of us don't want to hustle; some of us don't want to be #bossbabes; some of us don't want to climb the corporate ladder; some of us don't believe small talk ups your chances of a promotion; some of us don't want to spend our weekends agonizing over the thought of returning to work; some of us don't want to destroy our work-life balance for a salary that's honestly laughable. Ah! The list goes on.
Between not having any jobs, to having too many remote jobs, and not sticking to the traditional 9-to-5, Millennials and Gen Z'ers are just about done.
A GenZ'er (definitely) shared a video where he had a whole lot to talk about corporate life and exactly who all is [not] clambering for it, and the internet was all ears!
In the now-viral video, one brave Gen Z'er explained why he's not buying into the whole 'corporate ladder,' 'work hard, play hard' bit. He starts by saying, "This may be controversial but I want to descend the corporate ladder. I just think it's better for mental health."
"Some people want to be manager [sic]... and... and... that's okay. Everyone deserves the opportunity to get chewed up by the CEO directly.." he went on. Our hero doesn't stop there. He goes on:
"But the ONLY team I want to be responsible for is my plants."
So where does he see himself in the next five years? "My goal for the next 30 days is to not wake up from a dream about my job. I don't want to get promoted, make more money and then have to spend that money on more therapy and food because I'm stressed about my job.?
What about reinventing the wheel? He says explicitly: "The only wheel I want to reinvent is 'work hard, play hard.' Erm... no. How about 'work medium, play medium?'" **Grins**
If you don't absolutely love the guy by the end of the clip then what are you even doing watching it? This one's definitely for the HR or hiring managers. Especially not his.
His Instagram bio says he's a comedian, and has a podcast. He's been posting a lot of such relatable videos for some time now. Humourous_resources reshared his video which collected 1,65,000 likes and various comments.?
The video hit a nerve with the countless other disgruntled Millennials and Gen Z'ers who have just about had it with the entirely off-balance work-life equation. He definitely scored major points for saying it as it is, and essentially collecting our thoughts, fitting them in a seconds-long video and serving it right back to us, hot and fresh.
"This is me. I don't think I want to climb anymore," wrote one user in the comments section." "But can we talk about the urgency to climb and then you reach a point where you're like ew wtf is this but you can't climb down," wrote another, clearly speaking from experience. "I took a step down and a cut of $40k salary, plus lost half my holidays and vacation time about 4 months ago and so far it's been so great for me. I have time and energy to invest in myself and my new coworkers think I am so talented in my role. Everyone is happy," revealed a third.
