Gang members of Bihar have a reputation for being notorious. Incidents of fraudsters impersonating police or soldiers are common in India, but have you heard of people faking a police station??
A gang in Bihar set up a ?fake police station in a hotel, taking the scam to an entirely new level. An official said Thursday that a gang in Bihar operated a fake police station from a hotel for eight months, dressing up as officers.?
The gang members disguised as police also extorted money from hundreds of people.
As per a report in AFP, the gang members would then demand payment from locals who came to the fake station to file complaints and cases, pocketing some of the money. They also promised to help others find social housing or jobs in the police.
A regular person could have easily mistaken the gang for government workers because they were perfectly positioned within the office in Anurag Guest House.
However, the con fell apart when a genuine police officer started to notice two members of the gang carrying guns made in local workshops instead of service-issue weapons.
At least six gang members, including two women, were nabbed, but the ringleader remains at large, per Mr. Srivastava.
"Investigation is underway in the case. More information will come to light," Mr. Srivastava told AFP.?
According to a report in Hindustan Times, police seized a country-made pistol, four police uniforms, over 500 PM Aawas Yojna application forms, 40 electoral cards issued by Banka BDO, bank cheque books, five mobile phones, a seal of Janata Dal (United) district president Alka Kumari, fake identity cards, and other incriminating materials.
