A university in China is facing criticism after a video of students performing a particularly racy dance went viral on social media. ?
Footage posted on Chinese video-sharing app Douyin shows a group of young men and women performing in pairs in front of the freshers during a military exercise, Daily Star reported.?
The male dancers can be seen swinging their female partner around and pulling their legs up in the air.
Some of the students were left shocked and in one instance, the male dancers pulled the women's hips close to their groin area.?The performance continued and in one bold move, the men throw their partners in air and caught them in a rather vulgar pose.
The incident, which took place at Sichuan Agricultural University in southwestern China on Saturday, September 18, sparked outrage online as viewers said it's inappropriate to students.
One questioned: "Can someone explain the educational purpose of this performance to me? How is this acceptable?"
Another said: "This is just too embarrassing to watch. I wouldn't want my children to study there."
A spokesperson for the university said in a statement that the performance was organised by the school's dance society and stated the students were practising for an upcoming dance competition.
It read: "We understand that the performance had attracted negative comments and impact on the internet.?The school has promptly arranged for an investigation to verify the situation and has asked the authorities to provide suitable guidelines to the students.?We treat the matter seriously and consider all opinions and suggestions from the students and parents.?We will reflect on our mistake and avoid similar incidents from happening in the future."
