While talks about robots taking over the world may seem like a joke right now, there are companies that are trying to make some very real looking humanoid robots. But a new video has come out which shows how scarily real the facial expression is of these robots.?
A UK-based robotics company called Engineered Arts has shown off an impressive new humanoid robot that has some very realistic facial expressions. The company had put up a teaser of the same and it has gotten a lot of attention.?
In the video, the humanoid robot warms up its shoulder before a click causes its eyes to open and express a genuine look of shock or surprise.?It has a furrowed brow, it blinks multiple times (even though it doesn't need to) and observes its machine arm with an intense and curious gaze. The short clip ends with the robot reaching out its hand and forming a slight smile as it stares into your soul.
Engineered Arts sees the platform, called Ameca, as a ¡°platform for development into future robotics technologies,¡± according to?its website.?
The robot is meant to allow us to study human-robot interaction ¡ª and believable facial cues make that a whole lot easier. The company is making the robot available for purchase and event rental, but has yet to advertise a price.
¡°However, Ameca is a modular robot, we plan on upgrading [its] abilities over time so one-day Ameca will walk,¡± the company¡¯s website reads.??
Nevertheless, Ameca's smooth transitions between various emotions as well as near-perfect human-looking face show why it's Engineered Arts' 'most advanced humanoid robot'.??
Sure the expressions are impressive but it is also super scary and people on the internet feel the same.
