Adventure sports involve a great amount of risk, and that's the thrill of it. But sometimes accidents happen and it is not a good feeling. We have often heard stories about people falling from great heights without any safety, and there is no way those people survive.?
But, as they say, sometimes miracles happen and people live to tell their stories. Something, similar happened with a skydiver whose parachute didn't open mid-air but he survived. This is his story. Watch the video of a miraculous survival here.?
This is the story of Skydiver Craig Stapelton, a different kind of daredevil skydiver who avoided death by plummeting 8,000 feet without a parachute.Stapelton was 51 at the time. On March 10, 2013, he and his companion Katie Hanson skydived from a plane in Lodi, California, after which he started attempting a "down plane flag" move.?
But things didn't turn out as expected. Stapelton fell to the ground when both of his parachutes failed to open mid-air.?His feet threw up in turmoil as he desperately examined his bag due to the dwindling pace. Unfortunately, even his backup chute was fastened to the primary chute.?
They call him the luckiest?man alive, hear it out for yourself. After the fall, he came to rest on a row of grapes on recently tilled ground. Something that softened his blow.?
"I recall being quite grateful to be in the soil since it didn't kill me immediately. I had to catch my breath, so I rolled onto my back to give myself some time to gather myself. I heard my teammates approaching," ABC News cited him saying.
Believe it or not, he avoided any serious injuries from the incident. He was only slightly bruised and had a dislocated shoulder. His desperate mid-air moments were captured on camera and posted online. The video immediately went viral and is still viewed widely even today.?
Needless to say, the people on the internet were shocked at the video. Some people took to the comments section of the YouTube video.?
A man explained in the comments, "Yeah I also think it's the spin, both people who survived had a very fast spin, hitting the ground not straight on but their angular momentum from the spin probably pushes some of that energy off to the side a little bit, just enough to lessen the impact on the body from lethal to survivable. Just my theory any ways. I guess we should get myth busters on it."
Another man added, "It is surprising how he doesn't fall that much faster than the guy with proper parachute deployment."
A lady called the video, "incredible." "A very wise, well thought through rebuttal," added another.?
A man also pointed out, "Most people would have assumed he'd be brain damaged with such an impact. Ironically, the opposite happened. It was a relevant fact."
