A man in Louisiana, US, has been arrested for allegedly lying about being struck and injured by a Tesla after the vehicle¡¯s 360-degree camera system recorded the entire incident.?
But video of the incident filmed on the electric vehicle¡¯s cameras proves Bates faked his injuries,?according to police.
The video captured by 360-degree camera system which was later released by police, shows the suspect walking behind the Tesla as it backs up. The car stops and the man throws himself backwards a second later. He sits still, one foot resting on the Tesla¡¯s bumper, for several seconds. A man ¡ª presumably the driver ¡ª then enters the frame, brushes the suspect¡¯s foot off the car and then walks away. The car then drives off.??
Bates then called 911 to allege he was suffering from back, leg and neck injuries after being struck by the electric car.?First responders, including an ambulance and a fire truck, were dispatched to the scene.
Bates told police the Tesla driver had fled in the aftermath.
When police eventually tracked down the Tesla driver, he told officers Bates had intentionally jumped behind the car as it was reversing.
Police said that Bates was unaware of the fact that Teslas come equipped with multiple cameras that record around the entire vehicle.
¡°When Slidell Police officers reviewed the Tesla¡¯s video footage, it became apparent that Bates was lying and staged the entire event,¡± police said in a statement.??
Bates now faces one charge of falsifying a police report, which is punishable by up to six months in jail and a $500 fine.?
When questioned about the incident by the police, Bates allegedly admitted to making up the entire hit-and-run and was arrested on a count of false swearing with intent to cause an emergency response.
Bates has since been released from jail.
