Drivers on a US motorway this week had a gala time after an armoured truck spilled bags of money onto the road, prompting people to stop and pick up the loose cash.
The bags of cash were sent flying onto Interstate 5 in Carlsbad, following which two people were arrested on 19 November, according to ABC10 News.
A video of the same was shared on social media which showed several drivers stopping their cars and scrambling in the middle of the freeway to pick up the loose cash. People were celebrating and cheering as they picked up the cash.?
A clip shared on Instagram by fitness influencer, Demi Bagby, shows cash strewn all over the freeway, with motorists rejoicing in the background.
"This is the most insane thing I've ever seen. Someone dropped money all over the freeway - San Diego has shut down. Literally, it has shut down, look at the freeway right now, oh my gosh," she says in the video.
The cash spill happened after a door of the truck, which was headed to Federal Reserve from a local bank, popped open near Cannon Road.
According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), several videos uploaded online showed people picking up the spilled cash from the freeway.
CHP said they are currently working with the FBI on the case, adding the driver of the armoured truck tried to recover some cash from the lanes.
"There is a lot of video evidence of people picking up the cash, so we are going to be following up on every lead that we have. We did arrest two suspects on the scene," said CHP Sergeant Curtis Martin.
"Those two suspects accidentally locked their car so it was blocking lanes of traffic, so they were still here when officers got here," he added.
While many left the place with cash in their clothes and pockets, some returned the money to the CHP.
