At a time when mass layoffs and AI boom are both continuing?to happen, LinkedIn's most recent "Workplace Learning Report" has thrown light on what companies in India are planning to do.?
The Linkedin report states that 94% of Indian companies intend to improve their workers' skills and abilities this year as artificial intelligence (AI) continues to change the nature of work.
The report identifies the top three areas of focus for learning and development (L&D) professionals in India in 2024 as upskilling staff, coordinating learning initiatives with business objectives, and fostering a culture of learning.?
Human skills are given priority over soft skills by 90% of L&D professionals. According to the report, 91% of L&D professionals in India believe that human skills will become more and more valuable in the economy. In 2024, "communication" was the most in-demand skill on LinkedIn in all of Asia Pacific, including India. Hiring managers in India rank the top five soft skills that are crucial in the AI age, including problem-solving and critical thinking.?

Ruchee Anand, senior director of Talent, Learning, and Engagement Solutions at LinkedIn India, said, "Last year, we saw a 21x surge in job postings mentioning ChatGPT or GPT on LinkedIn, reflecting the growing demand for tech skills as businesses explored AI. This year, we are seeing a pronounced shift towards skills - both technical and soft skills - to thrive in the era of AI. With skills for jobs globally expected to change by 68 per cent by 2030, we are seeing a greater emphasis on learning both technical and soft skills, with a majority of employers surveyed agreeing that this balance will be critical for organisations to succeed in the age of AI."
L&D (learning and development) specialists are eager to make investments in a culture of ongoing education. Employers in India are emphasizing the development of workers' skills in order to provide them more self-assurance and job security. This is demonstrated by the availability of online training and development programs (53%) and opportunities for employees to experiment directly with Gen AI tools (54%).
Investments in learning opportunities will rise as a result of this intense focus on developing a culture of learning. Indeed, 96% of L&D specialists in India claimed that by assisting staff members in acquiring the skills necessary to transition into new internal roles, they can demonstrate business value.?
According to a LinkedIn report, 48% of hiring managers in India provide their current staff members opportunities for career advancement. Additionally, they think that the keys to keeping top talent are "providing competitive salary and benefits" (31%) and "helping employees build the skills needed for the future of work" (38%).
