What Is The Last Of Us all about?
After House Of The Dragon, HBO has hit the jackpot again with this show. Set in the post-apocalyptic US, it revolves around a mutant parasitic fungus that has taken over the world and is spreading like wildfire.
The show begins with two scientists taking part in a talk show in 1968 where they discuss pandemics. One of them warns that fungus is a larger threat to humans than viruses and bacteria. He explains that some fungus can alter human minds the way it does to insects, like ants.

The fungus in the show is based on the parasitic Cordyceps fungus, which mainly infects insects like ants and moths.The infections on the show are inspired by carpenter ants who turn into zombies after being infected by the Cordyceps parasite. Like carpenter ants, the characters on The Last of Us, go through four stages of infection.
The story-line occurs 20 years after a fungal infection wipes out civilisation. Seasoned smuggler Joel Miller attempts to transport Ellie, a teenage girl who might be key to a cure, across the tragic remains of United States, fighting government soldiers and the infected along the way.

While the first episode was able to set the premise in a crisp manner, the second took it several notches higher. Avid followers of the game couldn¡¯t help but notice the similarities. From Tess¡¯ demise to the zombies and the kiss of fungus, everything was on point.
Interestingly, many fans couldn¡¯t help but point out a very interesting conspiracy theory. They couldn¡¯t help but notice that Ellie and Joel avoided eating flour products. The makers themselves affirmed the fact that it¡¯s indeed true. According to the makers, the Jakarta mycologist in the second episode, asked where the breakout happened, and the office told her it took place in a flour factory on the west side of the city. Therefore, it¡¯s a high possibility that flour aggravates the zombies.

The show's creators, Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have confirmed that they don't plan to continue the show past where the game ends. This means that there is a high possibility of a second season based on the video game's sequel.
