SGPC demands FIR against Kangana Ranaut, seeks ban on her film Emergency for defaming Sikhs
Kangana Ranaut's upcoming film Emergency has sparked controversy as the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) demands a ban on the movie and an FIR against the actress. The SGPC claims that the film deliberately defames the Sikh community, portraying them in as separatists.
Ahead of the release of Kangana Ranaut's highly anticipated film Emergency, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has demanded a ban on the film saying that it deliberately character assassinates the Sikh community. Not just this, the committee is also seeking a First Information Report (FIR) against Ranaut who is the writer and director of the movie. To avoid such misinterpretation, it also wants a representative of Sikhs to be included in the Central Film Censor Board.
Kangana Ranaut's Emergency in trouble
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee demands a ban on the film
Taking to social media, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Harjinder Singh Dhami, said that the film is making a deliberate attempt to prove the Sikh community. He questioned how the film has been certified by Central Board of Film Certification, demanding a Sikh member to be included in the team to avoid this in future.
Asking for a ban on the film based on the Emergency imposed in the country by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Singh wrote, "The Shiromani Committee has passed resolutions several times in its general meeting demanding that a representative of Sikhs must be included in the Central Film Censor Board, but it is a pity that the government is not implementing it. It is very important to ban this film because it is natural that the release of this film will create a lot of anger and resentment in the Sikh community."

He also said that Kangana Ranaut has deliberately made expressions that provoke the sentiments of Sikhs, but instead of taking action against her, the government protects her. He demanded a case should be filed against her for inciting the religious sentiments of Sikhs for her act through the film Emergency. Citing an example, Singh said that movie titled Punjab 95, based on the life of human rights Sikh activist Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra, was not approved by the censor board even after 85 cuts. However, Emergency, which presents "false facts about Sikh community" has been approved. He pointed out the double standards of the government.
