¡®Did The British Do Us Good?' Apurva Asrani Shares Shashi Tharoor's Old Video On British Rule
Apurva Asrani has shared an old video of Shashi Tharoor where he spoke of the negative impact of British rule in India.
Apurva Asrani, the writer of Kangana Ranaut's film 'Simran', has shared an old video of Shashi Tharoor, where the author, politician, cum member of the Lok Sabha, can be heard explaining the damage that the British had done to India.
Apurva, who once lashed out at Kangana Ranaut causing him to break down during the filming of 'Simran' reminded people that our country was not poor when the British colonized it.

After the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, many started debating the impact of British rule on India and even 'Kohinoor' has been trending on Twitter with many telling the British to return the diamond as they believe the British had stolen the precious stone before India's independence.

Now, Apurva has posted the video that was filmed for a 2015 TV show in the United States, when the author of 'Why I Am A Hindu' Shashi Tharoor was questioned, "Where would India be today, if it were not for the British rule?"
The politician was quick to respond. He said that the question would require a long answer and stated that "This is like asking the widow of the American president, apart from that Mrs Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?" as reported by Hindustan Times.
In the viral of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who is often left awestruck by the internet for his speech and vocabulary, can be heard saying, "Over 200 years of exploitation, depredation and loot and destruction reduced India to a poster child for Third World poverty.¡±
Shashi Tharoor then starts sharing the statistics to prove that Britain did no good to India.

¡°When the British left India in 1947, 90percent of the population was living below the poverty line, literacy rate was below 17percent, and life expectancy was 27 (years),¡± the Congress representative says in the video.
Meanwhile, posting the video on his Instagram account, Apurva wrote, "With the tributes pouring in from India on the demise of the Queen of England, this is an important debate to return to. Did the British do us good? Does simply citing their contribution towards buildings and railways make up for the damage they did to this country? Were we a poor, doddering nation before the British arrived? One of my favorite authors, historians and thinkers, Shashi Tharoor explains quite succinctly. #shashitharoor #britishindia #britishraj."
