Bappi Lahri was obsessed with gold because of Elvis Presley. He considered gold to be lucky. Even Michael Jackson praised his Ganesha gold chain.
Apart from his unique and melodious voice, Bappi Lahiri was also known for his dressing style that was full of gold. The veteran singer and composer was never spotted without his trademark gold chains. He was sometimes even mocked for it, but he always took all of that in stride.

Bappi Lahiri's gold obsession had a connection with American Rock-star Elvis Presley.
"In Hollywood, famous singer Elvis Presley used to wear gold chains. I was a huge follower of Presley. I used to think, if I become successful someday, then I will build a different image of mine. By the grace of God, I could do it with gold," he had once told ANI.
Bappi Lahiri had also revealed that gold was lucky for him.
"My mother gave me a gold chain with a Hare Rama Hare Krishna locket in it. I got Zakhmi - my first blockbuster. When my mother put on the chain for me, she had told me it would be lucky for me. More gold chains followed with more box-office successes. I have always got gold from my family. After my mother, it was my wife Chitrani who gifted me another gold chain with a big Ganpati locket on it, on my birthday, in 1977. This was following the super successful box-office runs of Aapki Ki Khatir and Bambai Ae Aa Mera Dost," he had said in a segment for Speeking Tree.
In an episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, he had revealed that even Michael Jackson loved his Ganesha chain.
"Jab woh Bombay mein aaye the, main ek jagah pe baitha tha. Michael Jackson aaye aur mera yeh gold chain, Ganpati wala, unko bohot nazar aaya. Unhone bola, ¡®Oh my God, fantastic! What¡¯s your name?¡¯ Maine kaha Bappi Lahiri," he said.
Michael Jackson was also a fan of Bappi Lahiri's Jimmy Jimmy song.
"'You¡¯re a composer?', he asked, I said, 'Yes, I have done Disco Dancer.' Jaise hi Disco Dancer bola, woh bole (As soon as I said Disco Dancer, he said), ¡®I like your song Jimmy Jimmy'", he told.
