'There Is No Competition', Bappi Lahiri Once Said Beyonce?, Shakira And Eminem 'Dress Like Me'
Disco King Bappi Lahiri made waves in Hollywood. He had once said that Beyonce, Shakira and Eminem's dressing style was inspired by him.
Hailed as the Disco King of Indian music industry in the 80s and 90s, Bappi Lahiri has left us all for his heavenly abode today. After Lata Mangeshkar's passing, his death has left a huge void in the heart of music enthusiasts.
Did you know, he once said that international artists like Beyonce, Shakira, 50 Cent and Eminem dressed like him.
Suggesting that he is peerless internationally, Lahiri said, "There is no competition, but there are singers who dress like me. Among women, there¡¯s Beyonce and there¡¯s Shakira and among men, there is 50 Cent, Eminem and definitely, Akon¡"
He had even said that he was the Amitabh Bachchan of music industry.
" In film industry, there is Amitabh Bachchan and in music industry, there is Bappida. But Amitabh Bachchan is 12 years older than me." He said this in an interview with Hindustan Times in 2009.
Bappi Lahiri made waves not only in India but also in Hollywood. Fondly called Bappi Da, his iconic song Jimmy Jimmy Aaja Aaja from Mithun Chakraborty starrer 1982 hit Disco Dancer has featured in 2008 Hollywood film You Don't Mess with the Zohan. His song Jhoom Jhoom Baba was used in the Hindi promotional clip of his movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
He holds the record for recording the most number of songs in a day. Not only that, he also has his name in the Guinness Book of World Record for recording 180 songs in 33 films.
