Comedian Munawar Faruqui Denied Permission For Delhi Show, Cops Say It Will 'Affect Harmony'
Delhi police has denied permission to Munawar Faruqui for Delhi performance as they think it could affect harmony in the area.
Comedian Munawar Faruqui, who has been gaining attention over controversies surrounding his stand-up comedy, was supposed to perform in Delhi tomorrow, i.e. on August 28.
However, looks like Munawar Faruqui's performance is unlikely to take place in the national capital. According to ANI reports Delhi police has denied permission to the comedian's performance stating that the show will "affect the communal harmony in the area."
Hindu organization Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has written a letter demanding the cancellation of the show and said that if that didn't happen, members of the right-wing Hindu outfit and Bajrang Dal would stage protests.
According to reports, Munawar Faruqui's show was supposed to take place at the Dr SPM Civic Centre, Kedarnath Sahni Auditorium, from 2 PM to 9.30 PM on the scheduled date.
The show was privately organised and permission had already been given earlier. This is not the first time Faruqui facing issues with his shows. The comedian's Pune show scheduled for July 15th and 16th, July 2022 was cancelled after a Hindu outfit - Jai Shri Ram Sena submitted a memorandum to Pune¡¯s commissioner of police requesting cancellation of Munawar faruqui's show.
Last week, Munawar Faruqui's Bengaluru show was also cancelled following a complaint filed by a Hindutva organisation. A BJP MLA alleged that the comedian had insulted Hindu Gods through his stand up comedy in the past that had even led to police cases.
In January, Faruqui was arrested along with four of his associates by Madhya Pradesh police following a complaint filed by BJP MLA Malini Laxman Singh Gaud's son Eklavya Singh Gaud, who claimed that Munawar had hurt religious sentiments by making objectionable remarks about Hindu deities as well as Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a comedy show at an Indore cafe on New Year¡¯s Day.
Munawar was later released on bail.
However, Munawar Faruqui, who became a household name after winning Kangana Ranaut-hosted reality TV show titled Lock Upp Season 1, did perform in Hyderabad recently despite the threats and protests against him.
