'Plant A Sapling, Take A Selfie With It': Prakash Javadekar's World Environment Day Message
Prakash Javadekar launched #SelfieWithSapling campaign urging people to plant saplings and then click a selfie with the planted sapling. China hosts the World Environment Day 2019 with a theme of &lsquoAir Pollution&rsquo India released a music video &ldquoHawa Aane De&rdquo for this year's theme.
Today is World Environment Day and in order to make a real contribution, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar launched #SelfieWithSapling campaign, urging people to plant saplings and then click a selfie with the planted sapling.
Emphasising people¡¯s participation or ¡®jan bhagidhari¡¯, Prakash Javadekar who took charge as union minister for environment in newly elected government led by PM Narendra Modi, said is integral to tackle environment issues and it need to become a people¡¯s movement.
"June 5 is celebrated as World Environment Day. I am sure people of this country will enthusiastically participate in it. I appeal to the people to plant a sapling, click a picture with it and post it on social media using '#SelfieWithSapling'. We need such initiatives as we are creating a carbon sink," the minister said.

"The Modi government believes that environment is not just a government programme but a people's programme," he added.
While China hosts the World Environment Day 2019 with a theme of ¡®Air Pollution¡¯, India released a music video ¡°Hawa Aane De¡± for this year¡¯s theme of World Environment Day.
The government had launched the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) in January this year in order to reduce level of air pollution by 2024.
