Train selfie deaths in India
In fact, electrocution from high-tension wires has been major cause of selfie-related deaths in India in recent years.
In April 2022, a 16-year-old boy was electrocuted when he came in contact with a high-tension electricity cable while attempting to take a selfie on top of a stationary train engine at the Chhatarpur railway station in Madhya Pradesh.
The victim was climbing atop the train with the mobile phone in his hand and after losing his balance, he tried to grab the high-tension overhead wire resulting in his death.
In January 2021, a similar death was reported from Jharkhand's Ramgarh district, where a 16-year-old boy was burnt to death after coming in contact with high-tension overhead wires while taking photos atop a stationed goods train.
The boy had visited the railway station with a friend when he saw a stationary goods train and climbed on top of it to click selfies.
While clicking selfies, he came in contact with overhead wires and was burnt to death.
Deadly selfie in front of train
Apart from electrocution, there have also been numerous cases where people have been killed by speeding trains while trying to click selfies in front of them.
In April 2022, four teenage boys were killed after being hit by a train while clicking selfies near Basai railway station in Gurugram.
According to police, even as the Jan Shatabdi Express was going from Delhi's Sarai Rohilla to Ajmer approached near them, the teenagers did not move away and tried to get the train in the frame.
