London, Paris, New York: Here's How The World's Popular Cities Are Faring Against Coronavirus

The coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc across the globe, leaving countries with overwhelmed healthcare systems and an uphill task to contain the spread of virus.

More than 10.5 million have been infected with over 5,00,000 people having lost their lives. The unprecedented crisis has left the planet reeling under its effects as economies remain crippled and normal life without any sense of normality.

Even the most popular of cities across the globe haven¡¯t been spared, as they fight the invisible enemy. Here¡¯s how the most vibrant and bustling cities are faring against the coronavirus.

London

One of the most sought after cities in the world and the capital of United Kingdom, London has more than 27,000 confirmed coronavirus cases. The people have been warned that the city is at risk from a second wave of infections.

Last month, an antibody surveillance study suggested 17 per cent of people in London had coronavirus antibodies, Evening Standard reported.

As of Tuesday, London has 27,670 confirmed cases, according to the Government's official figures.

Paris

The number of hospitalized patients and patients in intensive care has been steadily decreasing over the past few weeks in France, and the number of new deaths each day has fallen to levels not seen since mid-March.

Weeks have passed since authorities began lifting the months-long lockdown, but the government warned restrictions could be reimposed if the number of cases rose again.

The city that holds the historical landmark of Eiffel Tower, Paris has seen restrictions lifted in recent weeks. All schools and shops are continuing to reopen, and cafes and restaurants, that form major core of the city, are seeing customers again.

In total, Paris has little over 8000 cases of coronavirus while 1750 people have died.

New York

The bustling city-state of United States, New York is still trying to recover from the devastation caused by Coronavirus. The worst affected city in the world has seen over 415,000 cases of coronavirus, while more than 31000 have lost their lives.

The worst seems to be over for New York as the state's fight against coronavirus seems to be taking huge strides toward normalcy of sorts, as hospitalizations drop continue to drop below 1000 for the first time March.

The city is on track to enter phase three of reopening as early as July 6, two weeks after it entered phase two.

While cases in New York are on the decline, many other states across the US are seeing an increase in cases. Florida and Texas are setting records for positive tests, and their governors are warning they may need to crack down on people who aren't social distancing.

Rome

There have been at least 240,500 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Italy, according to the Italian Department of Civil Protection. As of Wednesday morning, 34,767 people had died.

In one of the world's most historic city of Rome, close to 6000 people have been infected and over 130 have died of coronavirus.

Last month, the city embarked on a gradual loosening of its lockdown provisions. After allowing factories and construction sites to reopen and eateries and bars to offer takeout in early May, later in the month, restaurants, bars, hairdressers and beauticians were given a green light ¡ª as long as they observed social distancing and strict hygiene protocols.
