India might have lost the U19 World Cup final, but there were a lot of positives to come out of what was a near perfect campaign for boys in blue.
One of the most exciting young bowlers to come through the tournament was leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi. There was plenty to like about the 19 year -old. He was spot on with his variations and got his line and lengths spot on.
Bishnoi topped the wicket-taking chart by claiming 17 in six matches with a miserly average of 10.64, while Tyagi, on the other hand, terrorized opposing batsmen throughout the tournament with his swing and scalped 11 wickets at an average of 13.90.
He also claimed four wickets in the summit clash as India were looking to stage a brilliant comeback but ultimately, they were defeated by Bangladesh. But the young side will take plenty of hear from their performance especially Ravi Bishnoi, who will be upbeat after lighting up the tournament with his magical spin bowling.
With 17 wickets in the tournament, Bishnoi surpassed the previous record of 15 wickets jointly shared by Shalabh Srivastava (2000), Abhishek Sharma (2002), Kuldeep Yadav (2014) and Anukul Roy (2018) to become the highest Indian wicket-taking bowler in a single U19 World Cup.
Bishnoi has a few similarities to the great Anil Kumble. Although, not as tall as the Indian great, the young leggie is quicker through the year and consistently bowls wicket to wicket. It gives batsmen less time to think and negotiate.
These are still early days, but on evidence there is plenty to look forward to. Ravi Bishnoi will look to continue his rise in the IPL this year and get on the radar of the national selectors.
A leg-spinner in the mould of Anil Kumble, Bishnoi look set for a bright future. All he has got to do is, keep working hard and grab the opportunities that comes his way.
