Reliance Jio Added 6.49 Lakh Mobile Users, Vodafone Idea Lost 8.33 Lakh In August
Reliance Jio¡¯s recent addition made its mobile base grow to 44.38 crore subscribers.
Reliance Jio has gained more than 6.49 lakh mobile users in August, leading the subscriber addition tally, moving past Bharti Airtel which only added 1.38 lakh users.

This is according to a report released on Wednesday by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. Reliance Jio¡¯s recent addition made its mobile base grow to 44.38 crore subscribers.
Bharti Airtel, led by Sunil Mittal with its new 1.38 lakh users brought its overall subscriber tally to 35.41 crores.
The report highlighted that while telecom operators were busy gaining new subscribers, Vodafone Idea lost a considerable chunk -- 8.33 lakh to be precise -- in the month of August. The total wireless user count came crashing down to just 27.1 crores.
However, its loss in the month of August wasn¡¯t as considerable as the one it experienced in July when it lost a whopping 14.3 lakh subscribers.

As of July, Reliance Jio has had a 37.34 percent wireless market share. Bharti Airtel is second on the list with a 29.83 percent market share. Vodafone Idea (or Vi) is third on this list at a considerably low 22.91 percent.
The cabinet recently released a relief package for the telecom sector which includes a four-year break for companies from paying statutory dues as well as permission to share scarce airwaves.

The new relief package would also allow a change in the definition of revenue on which levies are paid. Moreover, now the new policies would allow 100 percent foreign investment through the automatic route, making the lives of telecom operators a little easier.
